Rural Education Network

The Rural Education Network is an electronic learning community composed of educators, trustees, parents and community members who have an interest in the future of British Columbia’s rural schools. Its aim is to provide a forum for ongoing dialogue, inquiry and learning for rural educators and those who support their efforts.

The Network’s ultimate purpose is to ensure that educators in rural areas have an opportunity to develop and share the expertise necessary to provide their students with an equitable education.

The initial focus of the Network has the been the provision of online, interactive, professional development sessions for teachers who work in multi-age classrooms, as well as those who want to learn more about the inclusion of special needs learners, the engagement of Aboriginal learners and the use of e-learning.

Each series consists of six monthly sessions related to some of the main challenges facing rural schools. See the Pro-D schedule, join a session or view an archived session.

The Network’s Classroom Connections Project is a unique opportunity that invites students and teachers of remote schools to participate in an exciting series of educational programs that will be brought to the classroom through the use of Elluminate Live. Test

This technology enables all of the students and teachers in the session to watch, listen and speak with the presenter and to listen to the questions and comments from other classrooms. See the Classroom Connections schedule and join a session.

Teachers are invited to register their class for one of the series programs, which have been designed for different multi-age groupings and curriculum areas. Each program will be offered to 10 registered classes and will feature a presenter and a moderator. The presenter will design and present the program, while the moderator will assist all those involved in the use of Elluminate Live.

Join the Network to be notified of future events designed for rural educators.
