French Immersion

French Immersion programs provide the opportunity for non-francophone students to become bilingual in English and French. They have the same structure and content as regular English language education programs, but all instruction in the early years is entirely in French.

Once students have a firm grounding in French, English Language Arts is added and instruction in the English language gradually increases. Students continue to receive instruction in certain subjects in French so that, by the end of Grade 12, they are proficient in both languages.

Students can enter French Immersion in either Kindergarten/Grade 1 (early French Immersion) or Grade 6 (late French Immersion). Programs are available in most parts of the province.
