Becoming a DL Teacher in BC
To teach in a public distributed learning school in British Columbia, an educator must hold a Certificate of Qualification issued by the British Columbia College of Teachers. Teachers holding certifications from other jurisdictions should contact the BC College of Teachers to see if their qualifications meet BC's standards. An evaluator determines an applicants eligibility for certification by examining transcripts and other documents, such as teaching reports and character references. Teachers from other jurisdictions can apply for an evaluation of their credentials, and the College will outline courses and/or programs needed to meet requirements. The application process also requires the applicant to complete an authorization for a criminal records check.
School districts hire teachers subject to their hiring practices, postings and time lines. You can contact the school district human resources departments directly for more information.
The British Columbia Public Sector Employers Association hosts a job listing site where districts may post job opportunities, as does Education Canada.
Individuals wanting to train as a teacher in BC should contact the Faculty of Education of their choice.
