Becoming a DL Teacher in BC

DL TeachingIf you’re an educator and want to become a public Distributed Learning school teacher in BC, you can do so provided your qualifications meet BC's standards.

BC Educators
If you are a British Columbia educator and you want to teach in a public distributed learning school in BC, you must hold a Certificate of Qualification issued by the British Columbia College of Teachers.

Teachers From Other Jurisdictions
If you are an educator holding a certification from another jurisdiction please contact the BC College of Teachers to apply for an evaluation of your credentials to determine if your qualifications meet BC's standards. An evaluator will determine your eligibility for certification by examining transcripts and other documents, such as teaching reports and character references. If your credentials are insufficient, the College will outline courses and/or programs you need to complete to meet the requirements for certification. The application process also requires you to complete an authorization for a criminal records check.

Hiring Process
School districts hire teachers subject to their hiring practices, postings and time lines. Please contact school district human resources departments directly for more information.

The British Columbia Public Sector Employers Association hosts a job listing site where districts may post job opportunities, as does Education Canada.
